Will isn't exactly shocked by Hannibal's admission; even if Hannibal had assumed – at least until he'd smelled Freddie's perfume and thus learned of Will's deception – that Will would come here with him, he probably hadn't suspected they'd so quickly (if ever) become lovers. What does come as a pleasant surprise is how easily Hannibal admits he hadn't seen this coming. Of the things Will knows about Hannibal, the fact that Hannibal is always either entirely in control of a given situation or quick enough on his feet that he can make a person believe he's in control is an absolute. Telling Will he wasn't expecting them to be here, in Hannibal's bed, desperate for each other in this way, is another small gift Hannibal is giving him, just a fragment more proof that what they're becoming together is as important and precious to Hannibal as it is to Will.
